Amazon Launches Its “Netflix for eBooks” and It’s Called Kindle Owners’ Lending Library

November 2, 2011 · 0 comments

This is from the I-freaking-love-Amazon department. Amazon Prime members can now borrow and read one Kindle ebook a month for FREE.

Amazon Prime members can get a book a month for free with Amazon’s brand new Kindle Owners’ Lending Library. There are currently 5,146 ebooks (including over 100 current and former New York Times bestsellers) available in the library. Prime members can choose up to one a month to read for free.

Soon I’ll record a video showing how this whole thing works. Until then, here’s how to get your free ebook:

Kindle Lending

You can keep the ebook for as long as you want, but it’ll disappear from your Kindle as soon as you “borrow” a new one.

I think we can all agree that this is just awesome. This is the kind of thing that no one else–none of the Kindle competitors–offer. This is why I love Amazon, and this is why I have a Kindle and not a Nook.

Note that the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library only works if you have a Kindle device. You won’t be able to read your free ebook using Amazon’s Cloud Reader or Kindle Reader desktop programs. Obviously, Amazon wants you to buy a Kindle. And you should, because Kindles are amazing.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. I am a very satisfied Amazon Prime customer. It’s $79 a year, but in addition to this new free ebook a month thing, you get free 2 day shipping on millions of Amazon.com items (and super cheap next-day shipping), plus access to 13,000+ videos and TV shows.

Did this post rock the house? Heck yes it did. Please share it and don't forget to subscribe to the Amazopia RSS feed.
